いつものように　幕(まく)があき　　　

As usual, the curtain opened.

恋(こい)の歌(うた)うたう私(わたし)に　   

I was singing a love song,

届(とど)いた報(しら)せは      

when I received a notice

黒(くろ)いふちどりが　ありました  　

with a black border.

あれは 三年前(さんねんまえ)

That was three years ago

止(と)める あなた 駅(えき)に残(のこ)し

You stopped me, but I left you at the station.　

動(うご)きはじめた汽車(きしゃ)に ひとり 飛(とび)び乗(の)った.

 I jumped alone in the train beginning to move.

 

ひなびた町(まち)の昼下(ひるさが)り

In the afternoon of a rustic town,

教会(きょうかい)の前(まえ)に  たたずみ

I stood in front of a church,

喪服(もふく)の　わたしは

dressed in black,

祈(いの)る言葉(ことば)さえ　なくしてた

without even the words of prayer.

    

つたが からまる　白(しろ)い壁(かべ)  　

An ivy-covered white wall.

  細(ほそ)いかげ 長(なが)く落(お)として

Casting a thin long shadow on it,

ひとりの私(わたし)は

I was alone,

こぼす涙(なみだ)さえ　忘(わす)れてた

forgetting even the tears to shed.

 

暗(くら)い待合室(まちあいしつ)　  

In a dark waiting room,

話(はな)す人(ひと)もない私(わたし)の

I have nobody to talk to, while,

耳(みみ)に 私(わたし)の歌(うた)が　通(とお)りすぎてゆく

through my ears, my song passes by.
