「Go West」:
1980年前後に一世風靡した、アメリカのディスコグループ、ヴィレッジ・ピープルの代表曲の1つ。この題名は、19世紀の米国政治家ホレス・グリーリーが人々に西部開拓を呼びかけた論説の一節、「西部に行け若者よ」（Go West, young man）にちなんでいる。
1993年には、イギリスのペット・ショップ・ボーイズがカヴァーしヒットした。なお彼らのプロモーションビデオは、直前に終結した東西冷戦とソビエト連邦の全体主義とアメリカの西部開拓を正当化する標語（マニフェスト・ディスティニー明白なる使命）を皮肉ったものとなっている。オリジナルにはなかった歌詞やメロディーが加わっている。ドイツで1位、イギリス・フランス、オーストリア、スイスでは2位と、特に西ヨーロッパ諸国ではオリジナルを上回る大ヒットとなった。[Wikipediaより]
