 making our music there

"Funky Claude"(いかしたクロード)： Claude Nobs,  Montreux Jazz Festivalのディレクター

本曲を含むアルバムのレコーディングは、移動録音スタジオ「モービル・ユニット」の設備を用い、モントルーカジノ内にあるステージで行うことを予定していた。しかしレコーディングを目前に控えた1971年12月4日、同ステージで開かれていたフランク・ザッパのコンサート中に熱狂的なファンが放った信号拳銃が火事を引き起こし、ステージは焼失してしまった。そのためメンバーは別の場所でのレコーディングを余儀なくされたが、本曲にはその一部始終が歌詞に綴られている。 

なお、その後カジノは再建され、建物内には録音スタジオ「マウンテン・スタジオ」が設置された。近隣の公園には同曲を記念した、バンド名・曲名および曲冒頭のリフを譜面にあしらったモニュメントが設置されている。[Wikipediaより]
