「昴(すばる)」the Pleiades 1980　谷村(たにむら)新司(しんじ)

 

目(め)を閉(と)じて 何(なに)も見(み)えず　　　

With my eyes closed, I can’t see anything.

 哀(かな)しくて 目(め)を開(あ)ければ  

Feeling sad, I open my eyes.

荒野(こうや)に向(む)かう道(みち)より     

Except the road leading to the wilderness

他(ほか)に 見みえるものはなし  

 I can see nothing else 

嗚呼(ああ)、砕(くだ)け散(ち)る 運命(さだめ)の星(ほし)たちよ  

Oh, the stars destined to break into pieces,

せめて 密(ひそ)やかに  この身(み)を照(て)らせよ  

at least, secretly, light me up.

我(われ)は行(い)く、蒼白(あおじろ)き頬(ほお)のままで   

I will go, with my pale cheeks.

我(われ)は行(い)く、さらば、昴(すばる)よ       

I will go, farewell the Pleiades.

 

呼吸(いき)をすれば　胸(むね)の中(なか)

When I breathe, in my chest

凩(こがらし)は 吠(な)き続(つづ)ける

a cold winter wind keeps whistling.

されど 我(わ)が胸(むね)は 熱(あつ)く  

But my heart is ardent

夢(ゆめ)を追(お)い続(つづ)けるなり  

and keeps following my dreams

嗚呼(ああ)、さんざめく 名(な)も無(な)き星(ほし)たちよ　  

Ah, sparkling nameless stars,

せめて 鮮(あざ)やかに　その身(み)を終(お)われよ  

at least brilliantly, end your life

我(われ)も行(い)く、心(こころ)の命(めい)ずるままに  

I will go too as my heart orders me
